Production Design with Structured Components - DESTRUKT

as part of the research project "lightweight construction with structured semi-finished components"

Structured semi-finished components offer immense potential in the production of high-quality functional components of reduced weight, especially for the automotive, railway and aircraft industry. Precondition for the wide commercial use of structured sheet metals is comprehensive knowledge of the technological properties, processing possibilities, components design and the production and logistics of such components that are presently lacking in the business.

In 2008 in the framework of the programme "Unternehmen Region" of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) the business-related group of junior researchers „InnoStructure“ was initiated, which began the research on the lightweight construction with structured semi-finished components. The group consisting of 7 employees researches on the processing chain of structured sheet metals and thus lays the foundations for the establishment of a regional and national technology platform for the development of high-quality lightweight products. The discussions with the participating industrial companies showed that further research on the design that takes into account the manufacturing and the use of structured components is necessary. This gap should be filled by the new graduate class (GK) "DESTRUKT".
