Research Profile of the BTU Cottbus
Core Research Facilities
In addition to offering excellent academic and continuing education programmes, the BTU is also a dedicated research university. With our strong, practical emphasis on applied research we are instrumental in providing impetus to the ongoing redevelopment efforts in our region. The BTU is an important driving force in support of the overall economic development of the State of Brandenburg.
In accordance with the profile of a technical university, the mission of the BTU Cottbus is to consistently ensure excellent educational and research opportunities in terms of training qualified specialists, strengthening the industrial landscape, and facilitating knowledge transfer with respect to research findings and innovative discoveries.
The academic profile of the BTU Cottbus consists of five focus areas, some of which have already yielded excellent results in national and international research efforts. On the basis of a strategic research plan we hope to further expand these five areas in the future:
• Energy
• Environment
• Materials
• Building
• Information and Communications Technology.
RESEARCH potential
With an exceptional 51 % of the overall university budget emanating from external funding, the BTU Cottbus has been very successful in attracting support from outside funding organisations. External research funding amounted to approximately € 26.9 million in 2009, which allowed us to create further research assistant positions at our university.
