Promotion of the next generation (facilities and programmes)
Promotion of the next generation by EU
The European Commission assignes scholarships to young scientists as well as - under certain conditions - to experienced researchers who intend to implement a research project in foreign European countries. This measure aims at mobility of scientists in Europe on the one hand and their education by research on the other.
Marie Curie Research Scholarships
Core themes of research:
Natural, engineering, economical and social sciences, medicine as well as in limited range the humanities.
Assistance measures
§ Individual scholarships
§ Scholarships for experienced researchers
§ Industrial scholarships
§ Scholarships for disadvantaged regions
§ Repatriation scholarship
§ Scholarships for doctoral students
Target group:
According to type of scholarship doctoral students, young scientists with research experience (doctorate resp. 4 years of experience of research) and experienced researchers (at least 10 years of research experience after doctorate or 14 years after completing of studies).

Promotion of the next generation through the German Research Foundation (DFG)
The DFG pays particular attention to the promotion of young researchers. This happens primarily through awarding of scholarships, beyond this through providing staff appropriations within the scope of project promotion, through support of participation at scientific congresses and the awarding of prizes.

Promotion of the next generation by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD)
The DAAD promotes students and graduates of several fields, also from abroad. The offer comprises more than 200 programmes and projects in countries all over the world, for example scholarships for a year and short scholarships, short-dated study stays, language course stays, language course scholarships, and technical course scholarships.

Promotion of the next generation by the Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Science (MPG)
The Max Planck Society promotes young researchers through research programmes and international doctorate courses.
Persons who already did achieve outstanding performance in their field, can qualify in one of the independent junior research groups for leading positions in science. The research programme runs for a period of 5 years.
International Max Planck Research Schools, international doctoral study courses conduce to international scientific collaboration.

Promotion of the next generation by Fraunhofer Society(FhG)
The Fraunhofer Society promotes graduates from the technical and natural sciences field. It develops products and methods in eight research areas up to the point that it can be put into use and therefore offers the opportunity to qualify for a responsible job in the industry. Within the scope of the work at the institutes it is possible to do a doctor’s degree.

Promotion of the next generation by the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres (HGF)
The Helmholtz centres offer a position as visiting scientist to scientists, engineers and technicians. Focus should be on the fields: health, earth and environment, energy, transport and space, structure of matter, or key technologies.
