Atelier Starzak Strebicki - Jola Starzak and Dawid Strebicki

The First Five Years - About Our Work And Fascination

Jola Starzak and Dawid Strebicki are architects and urban planners. Following their studies in the Netherlands and after many years of working for architectural studios in Belgium and the Netherlands, they established their own design studio Atelier Starzak Strebicki in 2011. Their work includes furniture design, interiors, architectural and urban design projects and researches in Poland and in Belgium. "What intrigues us about design processes is the diverse scale of work: from furniture, through houses and interior design up to city planning scale. We are also fond of temporary architecture and experiments in urban fabric, such as project for the temporary public space on Plac Wolnosci in Poznan, which we designed for the International Theater Festival Malta and the mobile urban furniture dedicated to the courtyard space of Poznan City Hall or temporary furniture for European Parliament in Brussels." Since 2011 they collaborate with the School of Form of the polish University of Social Sciences and Humanities and since 2013 with the architectural magazine Zawód:Architekt, for which they write articles aiming at the introduction of the condition of the architect’s profession in Belgium and in the Netherlands to polish designers. This year their studio was invited to participate in the 15th International Architecture Biennale in Venice. Their urban intervention ‘Kijkgat’ is currently being exhibited at the Biennale in the Belgian Pavilion. In their lecture they will show projects from the first five years of their practice representing the differnt scales and typologies they work with as well as the different approaches they find for these tasks, also considering differences of their working environment in Belgium and Poland.
