Chair of Control Engineering
Our scope of interest can be structured into three parts:
- Conventional control tasks
- Application of distributed control systems (Fig. 1)
- Supervision and control of high pressure gas transmission in distribution networks.
Classical control tasks include modelling and simulation of technical processes, analysis of system properties, and design of control systems. We focus on simple frequency-based methods and on state space approaches like state estimation, control and optimization. Of further interest is the application of expert systems and of neural network systems for process control and for process fault detection. Our main fields of application are vehicles, environmental processes, and power generation processes.
Distributed control systems are considered with respect to the user’s interface. We try to enhance the interaction possibilities by modern communication technologies.
In our third field of interest we investigate high pressure gas transmissions and distribution networks, in particular modelling and simulation of transient gas flows in the network, state estimation, model based leak detection, and complex network control. We also evaluate the design of complex integrated network supervision and control systems. Commercial aspects are considered in cooperation with experts in economics.
Past projects (sample):
- Design of simply structured controlers based on robustness criteria in the frequency domain
- Idendification and control using neural networks and fuzzy logic
- Modelling of parts of a power generation process using neural networks
- Model based diagnosis for parts of a power generation process
- Reduction of start-up time of a steam generation process
- Configuration and optimization analysis of control functions at a power plant.
- Gas distribution network: dynamic analysis of capacities and shortcomings, prognosis of future demand situation, future handling of network and storage facilities
- Evaluation of a maximum transportation capacity in a high pressure gas distribution system.
- Software for dynamic observation of conditions and leak monitoring in a high pressure gas distribution system
Available tools include:
Main components of an industrial distributed control system, Matlab/Simulink, and, especially for the analysis of gas networks, the programs GANESI / GANBEO / GADIAG.
