Application Regularities

The following admission requirements apply for enrolment in the Master’s programme Architektur.Studium.Generale:

(1) Evidence of a first degree leading to professional qualifications (min. of bachelor’s degree) in architecture or related disciplines such as urban design, landscape architecture, urban and regional planning, civil and structural engineering, art or comparable degrees.

(2) Documented evidence of generally at least one year professional activity since the first examination leading to professional qualifications or comparable practical work; all determinations about acceptance and the granting exemptions are made by the Board of Examiners.

(3) Foreign and German applicants must demonstrate their linguistic proficiency in the language of instruction – English (TOEFL: paper-based with at least 550 points, computer-based with at least 213 points, Internet-based with at least 79 points; Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE): with at least grade “B”; Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE): at least grade “B”; IELTS: with a result of at least 6.5 or equivalent). Basic language skills in German are required.


The following application documents are to be submitted:

  • Project portfolio
  • Documented evidence of academic degrees
  • Curriculum vitae with details about the academic and occupational career
  • Letter of motivation describing one’s reasons for choosing the study programme and one’s occupational plans
  • Employment references and letters of recommendation.


The qualification assessment is conducted by the Board of Examiners on the basis of the submitted full documentation.
