Research – Areas of Focus
Research work conducted at Faculty 2 contributes significantly to the BTU’s core research areas of Environment and Materials. We examine cities, building in urban areas and the impact of building on ecosystems. Furthermore, we specifically address the history of building technology and materials; our goal is to evaluate these historical tools from today’s point of view in terms of their feasibility for meeting current and future challenges.
There is great future potential in more closely linking questions of urban development/urban planning research capacities with conservation efforts on the one hand, and a historians’ point of view with the materials sciences and engineering on the other.
The existing organisation of our specialisation fields serves to finely differentiate the Faculty’s research and development activities. Nevertheless, a significant portion of our research efforts are conducted in the context of traditional areas of research at Faculty 2, i.e.
- Urban Renewal,

- Historical Building research,

- Optimisation of Building Materials and Components and

- Sustainable Building Concepts

These areas of interest are the core focus of Faculty 2 "Innovative Planning and Building in Context".
