in the course of this terms seminar 'i would rather live differently - spatial experiments in film' the first meeting of all the participants took place at eth zurich on may 16 (dr. doris agotai und marcel bächtiger / eth zürich, vera kumer und philipp teister / tu wien, belinda rukschcio und almut seeger, tu cottbus).

vera kumer, belinda rukschcio, almut seeger and philipp teister reportet on their work with the medium film.

right now 16 students from btu cottbus are attending the workshop 'restricted area access' at the technical university vienna. throughout this collaboration between students from both universities the participants will be developing experimental films under the supervision of vera kumer and philipp teister.

lecture by wiel arets

as part of ‚get in touch with the dutch’ the architect wiel arets held a lecture at btu cottbus on june 27. we are very happy to be able to report on an highly intriguing and inspiring contribution to the lecture series. wiel arets spoke about his manifold fields of interests and research topics that inform his work as an architect. on top of that he presented an impressive selection of projects from his office. we would like to thank mr arets for his commitment and his exciting talk! with wiel arets the lecture series ‚get in touch with the dutch’ unfortunately resumes for this semester. the chair prof. jörg j. kühn however, is currently working on a sequel of the series next semester with more interesting architects from the netherlands. but most of all we would like to thank our audience for their continuous interest throughout the semester and wish all of you a good summer!

we are very happy to report on an exciting lecture by dutch architect john körmeling at btu cottbus. mr körmeling spoke about a selection of projects that he developed throughout the last decades and that showed his engagement at the interface of architecture and the arts. with lots of wit, charm and inspiration he allowed deep insights into his manifold work and broad fields of interest. the chair prof. jörg j. kühn would like to thank mr körmeling for his contribution and hopes to welcome as many guests and visitors at the next lecture, which will be held by the renowned dutch architect wiel arets on june 27!

on june 13 the dutch architect marlies rohmer held a lecture at btu cottbus. ms rohmer allowed intriguing insights into her work and her wide field of experience. on the basis of a selection of projects she explained her design priciples and work methods. we would like to thank ms rohmer for her incredibly fascinating contribution to the lecture series and hope to welcome her at btu cottbus again soon.

field trip nl / 03.06. - 09.06.2012

according to this term's emphasis the chair prof. jörg j. kühn had organized a field trip to the netherlands. together with students from both bachelor and master programmes we visited architecture in the cities of rotterdam, hilversum, amsterdam and utrecht from june 3 to june 9. moreover we had the unique opportunity to meet up with architects such as jo coenen, branimir medic (de architecten cie) and mels crouwel (benthem & crouwel), who guided us through their own construction sites, finished projects and their own office environments. we would like to thank them for their time and commitment! fittingly the entire trip was topped off by a visit to the house schröder by gerrit rietveld, who is also the name giver for our studio spaces here at btu cottbus.

we are very happy to report on a very inspiring and successfull field trip and we would also like to thank our students and participants for their interest and motivation!

on may 30 jörg petri from the well known dutch office un studio held an exciting and interesting lecture at btu cottbus. he presented a variety of projects that also sought to illustrate the office's design principles and architectural concepts. the chair prof. jörg. j. kühn would like to thank mr. petri for his contribution to the lecture series 'get in touch with the dutch' and hopes to welcome as many guests to the next lecture on june 30, when marlies rohmer will talk about her architectural oevre.

on wednesday may 9, branimir medic from de architecten cie held a lecture as part of the series 'get in touch with the dutch'. under the subtitle 'dutch unfold' he presented an intriguing choice of both architectural projects and urban planning schemes to the audience. on top of that he discussed issues such as global exchange of architectural expertise as well as dutch architectural export. the chair prof. jörg kühn would like to thank branimir medic for his inspiring contribution and is looking forward to welcoming many guests at the next lecture.

the chair prof. jörg j. kühn is very proud to report on a very interesting and inspiring lecture held by jo coenen on april 25 at btu cottbus. jo coenen did not only present his own multifacetted oevre but took the opportunity to discuss general questions and challenges that architects and urban planners are facing in our times. the entire chair would therefore like to thank jo coenen for his great lecture and on top of that for his willingness to be an active part of the award ceremony of this terms PIN UP exhibition where he handed over the prizes to students from the faculty. the next lecture within the framwork of 'get in touch with the dutch' will be on may 9, 6pm, and will be held by branimir medic from de architecten cie. we would be more than happy to welcome you there again!

bachelor presentations w_11 (kauf)haus der ideen

students participating in the design project '(kauf)haus der ideen' presented and discussed their work with the staff at the chair prof. j.j.kühn and guest critic christian haid (fabric). the project was about the design of a library in berlin pankow, whereas the idea was to combine the utilisation as a library with additional programs. hence the concepts that have been developed throughout the course challenge traditional typologies and feature innovative and new building organisations.
