eb4 // negotiating space / a house for you, me and the others

filmstill aus playtime, jacques tati, 1967

traditional life models are increasingly changing, our biographies become more and more fragmented, flexible and unpredictable. in these times of individualisation also architecture needs to react in the ways in which spaces are being conceptualized. buildings are being inhabited by a multitude of different people pursuing different goals and various ways of life, a fact that might also lead to tension and conflicts - conflicts that need to be negotiated spatially and architecturally.

throughout the summer term 13 we will work with two sites in berlin which should accommodate 10 housing units each. All the units will be inhabited by different people, including the students themselves. the students therefore become both users and intermediaries between you, me and all the others.

eb2 // pavilion

this term we will build and design an exhibition pavilion on the btu campus. an essential part of the task will be to deal with the surrounding space and the implementation of the new structure in a way that highlights and/or erases special features of the existing site. all students have to look for a suitable spot on university premises and will design a pavilion for this very spot. the pavilion has to be made of wood - a material of diverse qualities and possibilities of use. there are many different sorts of wood, such as plywood, roof battens, pallets, etc.

the task will be structured in 7 parts: site plan, design, contest, realization elaboration, construction of a pavilion and exhibition with final vernisage.

first meeting: wed, april 10, 2013, 2pm, atelier lg2d, 1.og
