SILVER - intergenerational learning in organizations

The EU-funded project SILVER (Project N°. 517557-LLP-1-2011-1-NL-GRUNDTVIG-GMP) aims to develop a holistic and practice-oriented approach for intergenerational learning (IGL) within organizations of different knowledge-intensive sectors in various EU-countries. When talking about intergenerational learning, we refer to the deliberate management of learning processes amongst different generations of employees within organizations. At the conclusion of this project (Q3/ 2013), we will provide a tailored IGL-toolbox on the SILVER  homepage to assist organizations in the implementation of IGL in the workplace.

This two-year project is coordinated by Inholland University of Applied Sciences (The Netherlands) in cooperation with Oulu University of Applied Sciences (Finland), Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus (Germany), South East European Research Centre (Greece), Academy of Economic Studies of Bucharest (Romania), and the University of Strathclyde (UK).

As a cooperating partner within this project, BTU is responsible for focusing on the Stakeholder Awareness Process (SAP). The SAP will help organizations to identify potential problems related to the ageing of their workforce, such as knowledge loss and the underutilization of older knowledge carriers, and to consider the benefits and challenges of introducing IGL in their workplace. To implement and test the SAP, as well as the IGL-tools and the IGL-game, we are searching for practice partners (KIS-companies). Please contact us for further information.

Provision of Services Productivity

Within the framework of the BMBF Promotion Programme "Innovations in the sector of services" selected joint projects are advocated which not only deal with the theoretical fundamentals of productivity but also with the practical aspects of rating, evaluation and structuring of productivity in services. In order to increase the innovation potentials in the sector of services provision a basic application of measuring concepts and methods is carried out, and also the research and development of practical instruments for productivity rating and structuring. The clarification of the following two subject matters is included within the scope of this project: one is the necessity of research into how far the idea of productivity, which is well-known in the consumer goods industry, presents adequate measuring and evaluation means in the services provision sector; the other one is the question whether it's possible to create and implement business instruments and methods which would make it easier to measure and evaluate productivity.

Head and Number

Within the framework of ideas competition launched in the mathematics year 2008 called "Head and Number" our faculty was assigned a creative workshop for the generation of interdisciplinary business launching ideas. The numbers of self-employed people among humanists are exceptionally high. So far the promotion of business launching has been focused almost exclusively on the students of mathematical, natural science and engineering fields. The new intention is for the students of mathematics to work more intensively together with the students of the humanities in order for them to come up with common creative business ideas.

MobIUP

The support and promotion of female students to found their own start-up businesses is the core of this project . In the framework of the research project "MobIUP" sponsored by the Federal Ministry for Education and Research and the European Social Fund we witnessed a fantastic cooperation with the "Institute for Information, Organisation and Management" of the Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich. Some of the outcomes of the collaboration are the creation of a joint scientific plan to be realized both in Cottbus and in Munich, collective publications and a common vision of conference and workshop findings. Before 2010 it is expected to have investigated the questions of whether female and male entrepreneurs differ in terms of their starting points and needs, and whether the business launching seminars create gender-specific results.

Extensive analyses of the industry-sector-specific development of competences and economic activity in the European Union. The main task of the project is to provide for the commission analysis data about the European growth of "other services, care and cleaning" as well as "marketing and trade" sectors. The analyses account for the past as well as the future developments and draw conclusions related to the strategic selection of staff skills. Furthermore, they lay out the consequences and recommendations for further training. The partners of the project are TNO Netherlands as the coordinator and other European research partners.

INNOVA – Industry-sector-specific Innovations Activities

The continuation of the European project INNOVA exceeds the understanding of the current knowledge about the industry-sector-specific innovation activities. Now there is a need for cross-industrial analyses – in order to be able to better evaluate the innovation structures and output. Additional sectors such as for example skill-intensive services (research, development, etc), IT-related sectors (e.g. Hardware and Software support), as well as wholesale and retail sale should all become integrated.
