(July/ August 2010) July 2010 was a hot month also at the BTU Cottbus. First of all we had the inauguration of the new 57 meter high observation tower in theme park Teichland (the height of Bärenbrücker) as a part of the 5th Cottbus Baltic Sea Festival (more information in our getaway hint).

Secondly, the BTU Cottbus as the first university in Berlin and Brandenburg received an entry in the EMAS-Register (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme) which serves as a certificate for the leading role in matters of environment friendliness and sustainability.

In May 2010 an independent environmental expert examined auditoriums, laboratories, workshops as well as all environmental records, and demonstrated that the environmental impact created by the university was of a very limited range. The most popular courses of study such as industrial engineering, business administration and culture and technology, were given admission restrictions to maintain and extend the excellent conditions of studying at the university.

With the institute the Gründervilla initiated in the closing stage of the project preparations for the preliminary workshop, the creation of transfer and training materials and the planning of an event to the topic of „Successor Companies in Südbrandenburg“ (information at appointment). A lot of students who have been very helpful have left us, and we want to take this opportunity to thank them again for their contributions. This goes to Arne Ramm, Christoph Schiemann, Felix Herlitschke, Anne Magnus and Leonid Matthies.

ALUMNUS (lat.)

… means „pupil“ or literally "the nourished one". An Alumnus/Alumna is also a student of the so-called Alumnats (boarding school). Nowadays you also use the term to refer to university/college graduates
