Microelectronics and Information Technology
Teaching in the field of design and utilisation of optical-electronic systems in telecommunications focuses chiefly on the designing of monolithic switching circuits with multi-chip modules, opto-electronic converters and systems, as well as UHF broadcast transceivers.
By linking electronics and micromechanics, we can examine and develop microsystems that offer highly innovative solutions, e.g. sensors and actuators that serve to link information and signal processing systems.
Work in the field of media technology involves the use of telematics systems in the home (smart home technologies), electronic processing of spoken language for new interfaces and information systems, as well as use of multimedia techniques in new modes of teaching and learning. The faculty is thus the driving force behind the central scientific facility Multimedia-Centre, as well as for the Federal Ministry of Education and Research project "New Media in Education" and "Notebook University".
Our latest activities focus on the use of telematics in traffic engineering and in manufacturing/logistics.
