‘The Potential of Strategic Environmental Assessment for Integrated and Sustainable Water Resources Management in Yemen’

Abstract
In countries with weak environmental laws and policies, environmental considerations play little role in decisions about water resources management, thus threatening sustainability of water resources and water-related ecosystems. Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) offers an additional planning tool for enhancing environmental considerations in water resources policies, plans and programmes. My research aims, therefore, to investigate the potential added value of applying SEA at strategic level for achieving integrated and sustainable water resources management in Yemen. Analysing and assessing environmental, social and economic aspects, the researcher will develop scenarios for sustainable water resources management compared to ‘business as usual’ scenario.
