Eric Ofori MSc.

Eric Ofori MInstLM completed his BSc (Hons) Biochemistry in 1999 at the University of Science and Technology in Ghana and an Msc degree in Environment Resource and Management at the Brandenburg University of Technology, Cottbus, Germany in 2004. In 2006 he completed a professional course in Quality Assurance at the University of Derby, UK whiles working as a Quality Assurance Officer for Perkins Fresh-Pak Chilled Foods in UK.  He also has a Postgraduate diploma in Business Administration (2008) at the London School of Commerce, UK. Eric now works as a Quality Assurance Executive for Compass UK and Ireland Group. He is currently a member of the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM), UK.
The topic of his PhD research is Integration of Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) into the Management of Community Water Supply and Sanitation Programmes. Case Study: Ghana Community Water Supply and Sanitation Programs
 

Research Interest
My interest is primarily in the use of EIA and SEA in Water Resources Management and Sustainable Water Use in Sub-Saharan Africa. My work involves gathering both qualitative and quantitative data on environmental impacts of water based Programmes and projects including; health impacts, water quality, community involvements, stakeholders and finally strategic appraisals at the policy level. My aim is to use SEA to predict future impact trends at the policy level for Water Management Programmes in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Dissertation Topic
Integration of Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) into Management of Community Water Supply and Sanitation Programmes (Case study Ghana).

Short Summary
Although most countries in Sub Saharan African have some form of environmental laws and policies, there appears to be limited practical use in planning and decision making especially in the water sector. This tends to have adverse impacts on programmes and projects in communities. 
This research focuses on integrating Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) into Management of Community Water Supply and Sanitation Programmes using Ghana’s Community Water Supply and Sanitation Programs as a case study. The research is based on earlier studies which looked at the Environmental Assessment of Large Dam Projects in Ghana and the Application of EIA/SEA in Water Resources Management Policy in Ghana.
An attempt will be made in trying to address some of the problems of Community Water Supply and Sanitation using Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA). It will involve studies into the causes of these problems in sub-Saharan Africa, how to incorporate SEA into policies aimed at Community Water supply and Sanitation and impacts on the people and environment.
Final proposals will be made based on data generated in the case study about how to reduce some of the problems of community water supply and how to make these programmes self sustaining.
