The 20. Symposium Simulation Techniques takes place in the central lecture building of the 1991 established Brandenburg University of Technology (BTU), the easternmost university of technology in Germany. The BTU Cottbus is an international university with more than 5,600 students close to the city centre (10 min. walk to old town city centre). About 20 percent of the BTU students are made up of foreign students coming from over 80 countries worldwide.

The research work of BTU is characterised by transdisciplinarity innovation and sustainability. The main research areas of BTU are: environment, energy, material sciences, engineering, construction and architecture as well as information and communication technologies.

The City of Cottbus - the green city at the river Spree - is located between Berlin, Dresden and Leipzig, with excellent local transport connections to global connections (Airports) via train and motorway. Cottbus was founded in the 12th century. The city itself is characterised by the attractive historic centre, his beautiful baroque-style buildings and many romantic parks especially the famous Branitz Park which was created in the 19th century by duke Pueckler. The well-known Spreewald, a unique wetland in Europe is situated in the surrounding area of the city.
