Biodiversity and Landscape
The module aims at providing knowledge in biodiversity and landscape protection and consists of four parts.
Part 1: Faunistic indication and assessment
Objective of the first part is to give an overview of various methods of indication and assessment of animal biodiversity. The relation among data requirement as to presence and abundance of animals, data analysis, indication procedures, assessment and evaluation is discussed.
Part 2: Floristic indication and assessment
The objective of this part is to provide an overview about the formation, development and deterioration of the vegetation. Students will learn the key features of vegetation analysis and their practical use. Ideas of restoration und recultivation of disturbed or destroyed landscapes will be discussed.
Part 3: Habitat classification
Objectives are to give an overview of habitat classifications useful in the restoration context.
Part 4: Wildlife management and Ecological engineers
Objectives are to learn about the crucial role of large animals, especially mammals, for most other species in ecosystems and how to make use of them in ecological restoration. Examples for wildlife management in different parts of the world will be presented.
