Soil

The module aims at providing knowledge in basic and applied soil science – soil physics, chemistry, and biology. Emphasis is set on topics relevant for practical restoration purposes.

Part 1: Abiotic soil properties

The objective of this part is to provide an overview about the abiotic characteristics of soils. Students will learn to analyse physicochemical key features of different soils using standard laboratory procedures also applicable in their home country.

Part 2: Biotic soil properties

The objective of this part is to provide an overview about the biotic characteristics of soils with emphasis on soil zoology. Students will learn to analyse biological soil features using easily applicable laboratory and field methods. Bioindication of environmental impacts using soil animals is considered as an important point. Additionally, the role of soil animals in nutrient recycling and soil fertility maintenance will also be discussed.

Further information can be read in the Module description "Soil".
