What does eLearning mean?
eLearning (also used in context to electronic learning) is a modern kind of education. It's based on new computer and information technologies, and the learning content is produced as electronic (multi)media. You will find eLearning more and more in a wide range of different contexts: learning and teaching with electronic media, attempts to increases the standard of education compared to previous learning environments . eLearning at universities and high schools includes different methods:
- Computer Based Training:
the students learn with (often interactive) content, that is available on a CD-ROM or online on a server. - Distance education:
this means the integration of life, in-group instruction or interaction based on an distance learning curriculum, supported by different communication possibilities (eMail, Chat, whiteboards ...)- Teleteaching:
the classrooms are virtually connected over the internet by videoconferencing systems.
- Teletutoring: the students receive online-support by their tutors.
- Teleseminars: in virtual groups, student seminars are available over the internet

a combination of multiple approaches to learning. The lessons, face-to-face, in the classrooom, are supported by new communication and information technologies, e.g. the content and follow-up materials are provided on an online-platform.
More and more eLarning at Universities is used to define a specific mode to attend new courses or study programmes. The students rarely, if ever, attend face-to-face for on-campus access to educational facilities, because they study online.
