CBA Handbook published

Resulting from a pilot project in HCMC District 4, Ward 8, a CBA Handbook was developed. With this  handbook, we attempt to make a contribution to the current imperative discussion on climate change, its impacts felt on the local level by communities and opportunities for adaptation and vulnerability reduction.

The handbook traces the adaptation approach of one local community in Ho Chi Minh City and makes the tools utilised available to other communities with a similar exposure portfolio, as well as to civil society organizations and local governmental institutions which can support adaptation processes within their own spheres of influence.

Main Objectives in WP 8

Renewal and adaptation strategies for existing housing structures:

  • Cooperation with existing urban development projects
  • To identify areas and needs for redevelopment
  • Redevelopment of the central area of HCMC

Community-Based Adaptation (CBA) Schemes - Indicators of social vulnerability and adaptive capacity:

  • To raise awareness of the relevant stakeholders and urban communities towards the usefulness of the vulnerability approach to assess people?s needs in terms of adaptation and adaptive capacity
  • Indicators of vulnerability and adaptive capacity to climate change and climate variability have to become publicly recognised (indicator catalogue)
  • Empowerment of urban communities and other local stakeholders so that their adaptive capacity to climate change including variability is enhanced, their vulnerability is reduced and their social resilience is increased
  • Improved knowledge management among the stakeholders, capacity development and urban planning policy reforms in the field of CBA.
