State of the project
As a start, the project team, consisting of Polish and German members, dealt with the basic evaluation of both university libraries. At that time the constructive cooperation between both library teams had already positive effects, showing a strong interest in the activities of the respective partner. On the occasion of the First cooperation meeting on 17 November 2005 in ICMC, both partners exchanged information on the structural preconditions for cooperation and concretised the project plan.
The comparison of the media collections and the respective librarian and technical access requirements have pointed out possible forms of cooperation. Electronic services and online catalogues will be offered according to their license conditions on both homepages. Between the acquisition departments of both libraries a media exchange of own university publications and multiple copies takes places. Direct inter-library loan and conjoined specialised information become possible through collaboration of staff members from both libraries.
Further important long-term tasks became apparent, such as the identification of relevant standards and technical preconditions for further possible interfaces and the scrutiny of license and copy right terms.
For instance the Polish copy right is being adapted to the European one by degrees, likewise licence terms for databases are similar. Insofar we are able to act from the assumption of similar conditions.
The necessity of intense public relations and direct inclusion of the target groups has been recognised, therfore both libraries work on a homepage, that shall provide the opportunity for information and feedback to library users of both universities.
