Venue and Accomodation

1. Venue

All sessions will be held in the central lecture building of the BTU Cottbus (Zentrales Hörsaalgebäude/Audimax). A map of the campus and of the lecture building is available below.

The conference office will be available from Monday, 20 September, until Thursday, 23 September, from 08:00 to 19:00. On Friday the office will be opened only in the morning. The conference office will be located in the 2nd floor of the lecture building in Seminar Room (SER) 3. Please follow the signs at the campus as well as in the building.

2. Journey to Cottbus

If you arrive at Berlin-Tegel airport please take the bus to the central station of Berlin. There are direct trains to Cottbus every two hours from Berlin main station. Trains to Cottbus are indicated in the timetables as Regionalexpress (RE 2). The journey from Berlin central station to Cottbus takes about 1 hour and 45 minutes.

In case you arrive at Berlin-Schönefeld airport please note that you have to take a bus to Königswusterhausen at the Schönefeld Airport railway station and change at Königswusterhausen into the bus directly to Cottbus or via Lübbenau (there you can change to a train to Cottbus). These busses are indicated as "Schienenersatzverkehr" (rail replacement bus service) as there are construction works at the railway line between Berlin at Cottbus.

3. Local traffic Cottbus

The city centre and the Lindner Congress Hotel Cottbus can be reached best by taxi or by tramway line 2 (direction "Ströbitz") which stops directly in front of the station. Please exit at the tram stop "Stadthalle". The hotel is situated adjacent to the Stadthalle (see city map). The one way ticket for the tram costs 1.20 EUR. There are ticket machines in the trams (only coins).

In order to reach the BTU campus please take a taxi in front of the station. Alternatively, you can also take the bus (line 16, direction "Stadthalle", leave the bus at the bus stop "TU-Mensa", see also the attached city map). The bus trip costs 1.20 EUR one way. Tickets can be purchased from the bus driver or at ticket machines inside the busses or at the bus stop in front of the station. This bus line is served every 20 minutes.

4. BTU Cottbus

The conference will be held at the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus, about 125 km southeast of Berlin. The local member of the SFB/TRR 38, the Research Center Landscape Development and Mining Landscapes, is dealing with the manifold ecological problems of post-mining landscapes. Currently it is the workplace of researchers from a large number of different disciplines.

The BTU Cottbus, founded in 1991, is the only technical university in the State of Brandenburg. More than 5,600 students, including 900 international students from approx 90 countries are studying here. The focus of the research at the BTU is in the fields of Energy, Environment, Materials, Building, and Information and Communication Engineering.

The city of Cottbus with about 100,000 inhabitants is situated in the heart of Lusatia close to the Polish border within an area of famous cities offering both a rich cultural heritage and dazzling social life (e.g. Berlin, Potsdam, Dresden and Leipzig). For nature lovers, the nearby Spreewald forest with its UNESCO Biosphere Reserve offers an extensive network of picturesque waterways and trails.
