Structures and processes of the initial ecosystem development phase in an artificial water catchment

The collaborative research centre investigates,
  • which structures and processes regulate the initial phase of ecosystem development,

  • which interactions exist between processes and abiotic and biotic structures, and

  • which differences occur between processes and structures of initial systems and mature ecosystems.

The central investigation site of the project is the artificially created water catchment 'Chicken Creek' ("Hühnerwasser") with a surface area of 6 ha left to an undirected primary succession.
